Frequently asked questions

How do I make an appointment?

When you first contact us either by phone or email you’ll be offered a first consultation which is an information gathering appointment conducted by an intake worker. Counselling will follow at a later date. You will see the same counsellor each time you attend. There is not a fixed number of sessions, most clients will attend between 6-12 sessions. Daytime and evening appointments are available, please phone 01463 712888.

Is there a charge?

Relationships Scotland – Counselling Highland is an independent non profit making charity and although we receive grants from the Scottish Government and Highland Council we also rely on client contributions to provide our service. The initial consultation has a flat fee of £15. Client contributions for the counselling itself are dependent on income and will be discussed at the first consultation. Please note however that we do have a fixed charge for SRT sessions.

What if I cancel a session?

If you cancel a session within 24 hours of your appointment we will ask for the full contribution for that session to be paid. Out with that time there is no cancellation charge.

Can I come on my own?

Yes, whether you are single or have a partner who does not want to attend you are still welcome to attend on your own.

Do I have to be married?

No you do not have to be married or even be in a permanent or conventional relationship.

What about same sex couples?

The same service is offered regardless of sexual orientation. Relationship Scotland – Counselling Highland is committed to equal respect for all.

Is the service confidential?

Our counselling service is completely confidential. We will not disclose your name or any information about you to anyone outside Relationships Scotland – Counselling Highland unless someone’s personal safety is at risk. All our employees and counsellors are bound by a code of confidentiality.

Do you have a complaints procedure?

We do have a complaints procedure. If you wish to make a complaint please contact the manager in the first instance on 01463 712888.

Do you have child care facilities?

Unfortunately we cannot offer any child care. If you are struggling to attend an appointment due to child care please give us a call to re-arrange your appointment to a more suitable time.

Is there anyone you cannot see?

The only occasion we cannot offer our service is if you have a court case pending. Also, if a client arrives under the influence of drugs or alcohol they will be asked to leave as this could put our staff and counsellors at risk.
